Conduct a technical review of ship impact loadings and protection measures in accordance with the Employer’s Requirements (ER) for the structures associated with the HZMB Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR). It requires: • Protection against stated (or alternative) design loads • Independent ship impact protection for the western span bridge piers • Fenders for viaduct pile caps adjacent to navigation channels
This report provides a review of ship impact and identifies the pier and deck design loadings on the basis of internationally recognised guidelines, with a risk model established in accordance with these guidelines to estimate the annual frequency of collapse based on: • Bridge pier/span geometry, • Ultimate resistance of the pier (or span), • Waterway nature, and • Characteristics of the vessels transiting the bridge.
